Oratorical Festival - 2014

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church hosted our parish St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival January 12, 2014.  Introduced in 1983, this festival allows Orthodox youths the opportunity to write and speak about their faith.  This year was unique in the fact that this was the first year participants were given the option of a speech, essay or poetry submission.  In the Junior Division we had both speakers and written essay submissions by students in grades 7-9.  In the Senior Division we had speakers, written essays and also a poetry submission by students in grades 10-12.  Participants gave their personal interpretation of one of five predetermined topics for each division.  Our youths were scored by three judges from outside of our community.  The top speakers and writers in each division will go on to the district festival.  Should our community’s teens be successful at the districts, they will move on to the Metropolis Festival and then onto the national Archdiocese Finals in Cleveland Ohio.  Holy Trinity’s youths both spoke and wrote eloquently and we wish them well.
